Etta James - Why I Sing The Blues - (Live At Montreux 1993)

Etta James made many appearances at the Montreux Jazz Festival across her long and distinguished career from her first concert in 1975 through to her last in 2008. This film focuses on the concert from 1993 when she was at her absolute peak and complements it with selected tracks from many other Montreux appearances. It features many of her best loved tracks and songs that she is particularly associated with. Etta James was one of the most respected performers of her generation. In a career stretching over 60 years she was inducted into the Rock’n’Roll Hall Of Fame and the Blues Hall Of Fame, won 3 Grammys and received many more nominations and was named Female Blues Artist Of The Year on no less than 14 occasions. Etta James sadly passed away after a long illness in January 2012 and this film is a fitting tribute to one of the greatest female vocalists of the 20th century.

Als groot verzamelaar en liefhebber heeft hij de droom om de beste gitaristen van Nederland bij elkaar te brengen voor een eenmalig concert in Carré. Filmregisseur Erik de Bruyn deelt zijn passie voor gitaren en gaat voor deze documentaire met Vrienten via oefenkelders en zolderkamers op zoek naar het wezen van de gitaarjongen.
Op hun weg langs twaalf Nederlandse topgitaristen stuiten ze op verhalen over het eerste contact met het instrument, de zoektocht naar de ultieme gitaar en over het moment dat duidelijk werd dat de gitaar hun lot bepaalde. JB Meijers (De Dijk) vergelijkt de relatie met zijn gitaar met een huwelijk: "Ze moeten hun nukken hebben. De ene gitaar die álles heeft, is er gewoon niet'. Voor Daniël Lohues is de gitaar een verboden vrucht, voor Arthur Ebeling een "hond die ik elke dag moet uitlaten". George Kooymans (Golden Earring) heeft zelfs een apart gitaarhuisje in zijn tuin en allen zweren bij een type, merk of model. Maar waar is de grote gitaarheld van Cuby and The Blizzards Eelco Gelling gebleven? Zou hij naar Carré willen komen om mee te spelen met de andere jongens?
Het resultaat van deze hartverwarmende zoektocht is voor iedereen mee te beleven in de aansluitende concertregistratie van Gitaarjongens in Carré.
